Power And Drive For 55 Years With The Mustang

The Ford Mustang has been a part of the global conversation about power and freedom for 55 years as of April 17th, 2019. In true Mustang style, it’s bringing in this anniversary by being the best-selling sports coup in the world for the fourth year in a row.

“Nothing says freedom, the wind in your hair and the joy of driving like Mustang; it’s an icon,” says Jim Farley, Ford President of Global Markets. “The roar of its V8 on a spring day, there’s nothing better. No wonder it’s the most popular sports coupe in the world.”

Across the 146 countries in the world, the Mustang sold 113,066 cars in 2018, securing its place as a top seller worldwide. Of that number, 75,846  Mustangs were sold in the U.S., making it the most popular and best-selling sports car there as well.

Since 2015, more than 500,000 sixth-generation Mustangs have been sold worldwide, taking up an even larger share of the market than it held previously with 15.4 percent. This was boosted by the Mustang Bullitt which sold more than sales expectations by 25 percent.

As the next generation of the Mustang begins to draw more attention and become even more efficient and capable, it’s expected that the Mustang is going to continue its trend of dominating the sports car market.
